New Year’s Prayer
Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (NLT)
As we look to 2012, let it be to a year filled with hope. Happy New Year!
Upcoming Events!
Membership Meeting
Sunday, January 29th at 6PM there will be the Annual Membership meeting.
Tuesday, February 14th - Sweetheart Banquet
The Men’s Ministry will again be hosting the Sweetheart Banquet, with our own Jason Blessman doing the cooking. The menu choices will be Ribeye Steak or Chicken, with a vegetable, your choice of baked idaho or sweet potato, salad, dinner roll and cheescake, along with coffee or tea. Cost will be only $15 (steak) or $12 (chicken). Sign up begins Sunday, Jan 29th in the foyer.
Construction Update
Have you taken a moment to tour the new sanctuary building? Seen the new steeple (see above)? Been wondering what we’re working on? With most all the drywall complete and much of the painting done, the next project is working with the trim pieces. As you may not know, as we prepared to begin our building project, several in the church actively began salvaging many of the trees that were cut for the building site, along with several trees dedicated to the project, cutting and storing the wood and allowing it to cure. These raw boards were then recently sent to Corsaws where they were planed and shaped for the finish trim for windows, doors and baseboards. Now it’s up to us to finish sand the boards, stain and then varnish. Work was begun January 21, so if you’d like to be involved with working with these woods, there is a sign up sheet in the foyer. Our thanks to both Bob Grace and Roger Howerter for having the foresight and skills to take on this project several years ago...can’t wait to see the finished product in the new building.
Check back often, as the jobs will be changing as things progress. Each part of the job is important and every hour that you can donate your labors is an hour that Jim’s workers can focus on their jobs to speed things along. And what better way to fellowship with one another than to share in the building of God’s house!
If you’re new to this site but have seen the construction and wondered to yourself “What’s with the new building? How did they arrive at this juncture”, take a look at Pastor Barr’s letter to the congregation read at the official groundbreaking and photos from the day at the Vision of Hope page.
Adult Connections Classes
We have Bible Study classes at 8AM, 9AM and 10:30AM, so take some time to check out the curriculum and see where God might be leading you. If you need directions or to speak with someone about the schedule or what classes might be best for your need, stop by the Welcome Center, just off the foyer. There will be a couple new classes beginning in the fall so watch the bulletin and we’ll try to keep you posted. The classes are also listed on the board just inside the entryway on the east entry, near the office door.
Youth Ministries
Encounter is the High School youth group and the name of their new web site. This site will give those new to our youth group a chance to learn more about us, and also provide a way to keep up on activities. Youth groups meet Wednesday (HS age) and Thursday evenings (Jr. High) at 6:30PM during the school year. Join Brandon, Mark and Rebekah in the south addition, through the gym.
Choir and Orchestra
Beginning Wednesday evening, January 25th, Roger Howerter will again be assembling the orchestra for rehearsal and invites all who have musical instrument skills to join him. Maybe it’s been years since you’ve played in the band...brush off the dust and rediscover the joy of sharing the gift that God has given you through music. Rehearsals are always on Wednesdays at 5-6:30PM in the sanctuary.
Also, Jeanine Gaumer invites all chorus members, past and present, to join with her starting Sunday, January 29th at 5PM as the chorus begins work on this year’s Easter Cantata. The plan is to also continue with Sunday morning choral worship, perhaps every other week. Practices are Sundays at 5 in the sanctuary. If you’re new to the church, there’s no better way to get to know others as we fellowship and serve Christ through this ministry. Won’t you join us?
